Gili Meno is located in the middle between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air on the northwest corner of Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. It is only two kilometers long and one wide with population 300 locals who live here. That is make this island is smallest and the quietest among the three Gili Islands.
Looking for a quiet and beautiful place to spend a honeymoon? This island is very suitable to you. You will have experience living in a tropical island with charming Thai style huts on the main beach which close to the water’s edge or bungalows with tropical gardens on the northern of the island. The majority accommodation can be found on the southern beach strips of the island. Don’t come to Gili Meno expecting to find top level of accommodation just like on Gili Trawangan. But, there are cheaper rooms and bungalows with freshwater shower facilities and fan. The beach out front is quiet and beautiful and the visitors will have less distractions or disturbances.

Just like two other islands on Gili Islands, there are no cars or motorbikes. The transportation that are available in Gili Meno is by horse-drawn carts called cidomos or bicycle. Not only that, there is better opportunity if you like walk around to enjoy the island along the beach, it is only under two hours. Interesting, right? Sightseeing the white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. But this island doesn’t have bank, you can find money changers in most tourist information but give lower rate than mainland of Lombok. Health center or PUSKESMAS are being developed under funding contribution from local business, but no doctor is available on the island.
On the west of the island, you can find salt lake. This lake is quiet large, surrounded by a mangrove forest that become the nest of various birds. One of them is eagles. Not satisfy enough of the chirping of the birds in this lake? You can visit the Meno’s Bird Sanctuary. It has hundreds of various tropical birds from many different rain forests in Indonesia. You can see macaws, flamingos, pelicans, eagles, parrots, and more birds fly over your head.

If you like sea activities, you can snorkeling off the shore to see beautiful coral reefs and fish or you can join diving course. In Gili Meno there is famous place among divers and snorkelers, it is Gili Meno Wall where during the day, turtles freely swim by and giant gorgonian fans hang amongst the colorful corals. Beside that place, Gili Meno has another place, they are Sea Turtle Point and Blue Coral Point. At night, divers can witness huge Moray Eels and the entertaining Spanish dancers, baby cuttlefish and a whole array of crustaceans. The visibility is constantly year around, expect to see Hawkbill and leatherback turtles, schools of Batfish, Blue-spotted stingrays and many varieties of hard and soft corals. If you are lucky enough, you can find rare and unusual nudibranchs amongst other lesser-spotted micro critters.
The busiest days in this island is from May to August and the quieter off-season from January to April that give better opportunity to enjoy the island. But, everything will be more expensive on the busiest days. So, write your story and feel the tropical island in the Gili Meno!
